There’s a Book Club?

As of drafting this post, we have 970 book club members reading with us and I am here to formally invite you to be one of them! I’m going to tell you a little bit about our club, how things work and let you decide for yourself if you want to join. Cool? Cool.

Where can I find the book club?

We host the book club via our Discord channel. With Discord, we are able to keep things organized and make it easy for newcomers to find a spot and fit right in. Click here to join our book club on Discord.

In the Discord, you will find a place to introduce yourself, get to know folks, hang out and talk books, discuss the current read as we are reading it and other fun things like the question of the day. You will also find all the information you need to keep up with us including new book selections, polls, meeting dates, times and links, etc.

What do I have to do once I’m in?

There is nothing required of you, really. We’re just happy you’re here!
You can read the book but you don’t have to.
You can come to the virtual monthly discussion meetings but you don’t have to.
If you do come to the meetings, you can turn on your mic/camera and discuss the book with us… but you don’t have to.

We wanted to keep the stakes low in order to keep it fun and to ensure it is accessible and enjoyable for everyone. I know for me personally, the minute someone tells me to do something - even something I want to do - I’m checked out. Plus, some of you might want to be involved but not interact and we get that! You can just lurk, get some new titles to add to your TBR and participate as much as you are comfortable with.

The book club is also free to join and free to participate in! You can “pay dues” if you are in a position to do so and just want to support the work and effort that goes into running the book club, but you don’t have to. There is a tier on Natalie’s Patreon called Book Club Dues if you are interested but again, it isn’t required.

What is the general structure?

  • we read one book per month (some pre-selected, some voted on by you)

  • announce it at/near the beginning of the month

  • host a virtual meeting via Google Meet near the end of the month to discuss

  • read, rinse, repeat

Meetings are pretty chill, they usually last around an hour and as stated, no participation is required on your end. Some people enjoy just having it on and listening as if its a live podcast, some folks are yappers, like us. All are welcome!

We also try (when we remember and when technology allows) to record the meetings and post them on YouTube in case anyone couldn’t make it but still want to tune in. Here is a link to all the past meetings we have recorded if you wanna check it out before joining!

Ok so, what do you think? Do you have any more questions? If so, leave them in the comments and we can discuss. Over the past 2 years, we have read over 50 titles together, spanning genres from sleep paralysis demon dark romance to found family to gory, surreal horror and more. Our community of readers who enjoy weird stuff is a welcoming, warm and weird little space and we’d love to have you be a part of it.
